Graduate Assistant Application

Requirements:

No Longer Accepting Applications for Fall  2019 Graduate Assistant Positions

Applications for Spring 2020 Graduate Assistant Positions Due by December 2nd

  • MAcy or MBA student (Priority given to MAcy)
  • Unfortunately, students enrolled in the integrated BBA/MAcy program are not eligible for GA positions until all of the BBA requirements have been met.
  • A graduate assistant must be taking at least 6 hours in order to qualify as an hourly-wage GA (paid bi-monthly) and at least 9 hours to qualify as a salaried GA (paid monthly).
  • The department prefers that GAs take no more than 12 hours.

Required Skills:

  • Communicates often
  • Meets deadlines given by faculty and department
  • Uses Outlook calendar or alternative planner to organize time &  workload
  • Manages time well
  • Must be fluid/adaptive with day-to-day workloads
  • Punctual
  • Volunteers for tasks when needed
  • Pays attention to detail
  • Keeps a clean work area

Expected Hours and Salary Information:

  • Must work at least 15 hours but no more than 20 hours a week
  • The Department of Accounting offers a combination of salaried and hourly positions.
  • Salaried Graduate Assistants are paid $1444.74 on the first of the month
  • Hourly Graduate Assistants are paid $14.50 per hour and are paid on the 1st and 15th of every month

Job Duties:

Can include any course-related task within reason. List of common duties include:

  • grading tests, quizzes, homework, and class projects
  • reviewing course materials with undergraduate students
  • proctoring exams for undergraduate courses
  • record retention for both department and faculty members
  • making copies of exams, quizzes, class handouts, etc.
  • participating in grading sessions for joint departmental exams
  • dropping off/picking up tests at the testing center
  • data entry
  • holding additional office hours on behalf of faculty member
  • organizing faculty offices and files
  • helping the department with extra tasks as assigned

Spring 2020 GAs will be required to attend a mandatory training session on January 17, 2020  as well as complete online training in your first week of employment.

By providing information about your job and work schedule, we will try to accommodate based on your availability.  

 

I am available to work at least 15 hours per week but understand that due to fluctuating needs of the department, I may be asked to work up to 20. *
I will make myself available from the week before classes start until the week after graduation. *

Agreements and Expectations

I understand that I will be paid either hourly (bi-monthly) or salaried (monthly) and that it is the discretion of the department to determine which. *
With the exception of my classes and studies, I understand that my personal preferences and commitments are secondary to my duties as a graduate assistant. *
