A team of four Texas State accounting students earned a spot in the "Final Four" of the National Student Case Competition sponsored by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA). They competed against twenty-five teams from across the U.S. This is only the second year for our students to participate in this competition and the second year our team earned a spot in the finals. Team members were: Briesen Cooper, BBA-Accounting 2019; Lucas Gitzendanner; BBA-Accounting, May 2019; Alii Mendez; BBA-Finance 2018; and Zac Saenz; BBA-Accounting 2019.

The competition is a two part process in which teams prepare their solution to a case study for a hypothetical business. First, they must prepare a 15-minute video of their solution and then, finalists are required to give a live presentation at the national IMA meeting before a panel of judges (both industry experts and college professors) as well as conference attendees (more than 80 this year). All students on the team said it was an extraordinary experience and that their participation helped them enhance skills they will need in their careers and also as they pursue their graduate degrees. Saenz observed: "This competition was such an enriching, and at times, exhausting experience...and, I am the better for it." Cooper, Mendez, and Saenz began the MAcy program this fall.
